My 1st Mother's Day!

Well let me just start out by saying my 1st mother's day was wonderful in the fact that i get to be the mother to a wonderful kid, but my mother's day was NOT a testament to all that is great in my life.
i had expectations of being pampered and laying around all day. now i know this is technically my 2nd mother's day but last year, i was pampered all the time. i'm talking back massages, foot rubs, long hot relaxing baths, food prepared as soon as i asked for it (pregnant hungry katie is not good for anyone involved). I have a wonderful husband who is also a fabulous father to our daughter. Don't get me wrong i have no complaints there. But i did have expectations for my first mother's day with my child outside of me. I was thinking breakfast in bed, waking up to a snuggling happy baby, just hanging out getting to catch up on somethings on the DVR.

This is how my mother's day went....waking up to a screaming baby as luke tried to feed her but for some reason she felt the need to scream if he wasn't feeding her fast enough. So i was outta bed No breakfast in bed; i have never had that before, still haven't :(. i know i know boo hoo me! oh well so luke goes to cooking banana pancakes and i sit down to eat, all the while belle still screaming, while she crawls, while she plays, the whole time! well luke and i have been struggling with and ant problem and i am probably the main reason it is to the extent that it is (i don't know what really is safe to use while belle is crawling around) and well the point of me telling all this is i sit down to eat my yummy yummy pancakes and well the syrup has ants floating in it. SUPER! so i eat a dry one and luke apologize the whole time (not his fault, but still apologizes. love him!) mean while belle the screaming child needs to go down for a nap, so i go put her down while luke cleans up the kitchen. This poses to be a daunting task, belle usually goes down with no probs. a book and a few minutes of rocking and i lay her down asleep or not and she always goes to sleep. well she fought the whole book and then pushed and yanked at my hair after the book so i just layed her down. Guess what?...she screamed! Ahhh! after the nap she woke in somewhat of a better mood but she wouldn't snuggle she hardly smiled. not a typical day at all! so i figure she is teething! Don't her teeth know its Mother's Day! well they don't and belle doesn't care either. So i have to do what mom's do and give up my day and take care of her. Well i thought about it that night and yes, Mother's Day is supposed to be about mother appreciation but mine mostly became about being a Mother. I still have these moments when it just hits me....my old life the life i knew, where i could do what i wanted when i wanted, staying out til I got tired, being places on time, not preparing an hour in advance to go to walmart or to a friends house, those days are GONE! at least for awhile! and i love it!

It took me a while to make the full adjustment to motherhood but now that i'm in this hood i don't ever wanna leave!

oh and a Huge thanks to my Mom for all her sacrifices that she had to make to raise my bother and I. You are a great Mom and a wonderful friend!

My 1st Mother's Day! and it was GREAT because i have a wonderful family, being a mom sure does teach you how to not sweat the small stuff and cherish the sweet stuff!

have a great day!

  2. I can remember those days (in fact we had one Saturday when Meredith, Anna and I took Mom to Atlanta to sing the King Tut exhibit - your mother would have loved it!). Meredith had one of her tantrums when she missed our exit and blamed everyone but herself! Reminded me of when she was teething and cranky, a stage she has never fully grown out of. Enjoy every minute of this age, because I promise you next week she will be graduating from high school!!!
